WELCOME to the Media Wiki of the SPACE4AGRI project
Space4Agri - Sviluppo di metodologie aerospaziali innovative di osservazione della terra a supporto del settore agricolo in Lombardia (S4A) is a project funded by Regione Lombardia in the framework of the Accordo Quadro Regione Lombardia – CNR. The project addresses needs at two different levels:- Development of downstream services as suggested by the European Commission Copernicus programme, which can bring added economic value for the farming system and advantage to the public bodies and to citizens;
- Developments of a knowledged and methodological framework, as expressed by DG Agri Regione Lombardia and ARPA Lombardia, to support planning and management activities in the Agrifood sector of Regione Lombardia for sustainable development.
These topics are also at the centre of the political guidelines of the European Commission and at the core of the International Exposition 2015 (EXPO 2015) to be held in Milano, Italy in 2015; moreover, food security and sustainable agriculture are key strategic thematics of Horizon 2020.
In this farmework, Earth Observation (EO) technologies can contribute with a synoptic view at local to regional/national scale for agro ecosystem monitoring. Smart technologies, which have been witnessing a large spread in several fields of application, can be exploited for a rapid acquisition of in situ data/information (sensor network, field observations) to be integrated with data acquired by satellites; the same technologies can be used to return elaborated specialized data/information to the users (institutional and private users) through downstream services. The major objective of the S4A project is the innovation of the data-information-service chain at both regional and local scales for the Agrifood sector of Regione Lombardia. The S4A project also foresees the innovative test of UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) for agriculture local monitoring (precision agriculture).
